Nedyalko Nedyalkov
Nedyalko Nedyalkov is one of the leading figures of the contemporary Bulgarian kaval tradition. Trained at the Shiroka Luka School for Musical Folklore and the Music Academy in Plovdiv, he has been a soloist with the Bulgarian National Radio Orchestra since 1996.
Known for his exceptional virtuosity and rare mastery of the quarter-tone system, Nedyalkov moves fluidly between traditional Balkan music, improvisation, and cross-genre collaborations. He has performed extensively across Europe, Asia, Africa, and North America, and is a long-standing member of Jordi Savall’s Hespèrion XXI, contributing to major intercultural projects including the Grammy-winning Dinastía Borja.
Alongside his international performance career, he continues to record, teach, and inspire new generations of kaval players, shaping a living, forward-looking approach to one of the Balkans’ most iconic instruments.
