Şenkop

Şenkop takes its name from the Turkish word “şen” (joyful) and syncopation, reflecting the band’s playful yet rhythm-driven musical approach. Rooted in Anatolian folk traditions, the ensemble reimagines songs from Anatolia and neighboring regions through vibrant, contemporary arrangements while preserving their cultural essence.

Blending jazz harmonies with traditional makam music, Şenkop places particular emphasis on microtonality, approaching Anatolian music as a multicultural mosaic shaped by Turkish, Kurdish, Armenian, Greek, Assyrian, and other traditions. Their performances create a lively bridge between heritage and modern sensibilities, inviting audiences to experience familiar melodies in fresh and exhilarating ways.

Formed in early 2024, Şenkop quickly became an active presence on Istanbul’s live music scene, performing at venues such as Artİstanbul Feshane, Moda Sahnesi, and historic locations including Büyükada Taş Mektep and the Basilica Cistern. The group opened the “+1’li Gece Gezmesi” series at the 32nd Istanbul Jazz Festival and released their debut live album Evde. In 2025, Şenkop took their sound beyond Turkey with a performance at the Anolopolis World Music Festival in Thessaloniki.
